It wasn’t that long ago, maybe a matter of months, that I read a notice about the exciting introduction of vegan options at Wahaca. I’ve passed by the bright fluorescent neon pink light of their logo at St Andrew’s Square in Edinburgh, but never knew what they had to offer.

Chain Mexican street food restaurant Wahaca offers a seasonal menu using fresh local as much as possible to recreate flavours from Mexico. With a South American vibe in decor, it’s hard not to feel happy and groovy when dining here.

Launch of the vegans: review of Tesco’s vegan Wicked Kitchen range

TO coincide with Veganuary last month (the charity awareness month for veganism in the month of January), British multinational supermarket Tesco launched their range of vegan ready meals and wraps/sandwiches about a month ago (see here). Together with their Executive Chef and Director of Plant-Based Innovation, and Veganuary Ambassador, Derek Sarno, vegans around the UK flocked to their nearest Tesco store to try and get their hands on the Wicked Kitchen products.

Edinburgh Beetroot Cafe Supper Club: first raw vegan supper club review

I had a taste of raw vegan food last year and although it was just cakes, it left an impression in my mind that I wasn’t sure that was something I wanted to try. When Emma from http://veganedinburgh.com/ mentioned a raw vegan supper club event for Burn’s Night, I was a bit hesitant to try it again, but since I’d been meaning to visit Beetroot Cafe at some point, I thought this would be the best opportunity to try what they had to offer. A hidden vegan-friendly joint: review of Woodland Creatures, Edinburgh

Unless it’s one of the restaurants or places people talk about in your local area, you might not even be aware that vegan options are available in certain places. Woodland Creatures on Leith Walk was one of these establishments that I was blissfully unaware of until I discovered it on the Vegan Edinburgh site when I was looking for somewhere to meet a friend.

Happy sushi days: review of Happy Maki, Brighton

I’m sure every vegan will be able to relate to the fact that when you decide to go on a trip, finding out where you can find vegan options can be a bit of a minefield when you’re not familiar with the country. Searching Google and asking in local groups for advice are typical ways for us to find what we need to know, but wouldn’t it be helpful if all this information was in one place, like Vegan Edinburgh for those who are visiting Edinburgh?

I’ve decided that I’m going to share where I’ve been and also share reviews of places I’ve visited in my travels (I’ll also have posts on Hong Kong and London still to come) and share them with you. Hopefully this will give you a bit of a starting point on finding places that might be of interest! Speedy vegan pizza in 90 seconds! Review of @pizza in Edinburgh

I have a confession to make.

Since going vegan, I’ve heard some mixed reviews about where to get vegan pizza. Some have mentioned how the pizza bases weren’t vegan, how some places offer pizza without cheese and how some of the cheeses used weren’t quite as stretchy as you would expect from dairy cheeses. I’m sure you would avoid something too if it was potentially going to ruin your impression of what a good dish should taste like, so I’ve been avoiding pizzas…up until a couple of weeks ago.

When Emma from Vegan Edinburgh invited me to go along to review new pizza parlour, @pizza on Charlotte Lane, I had to give it a go.

Healthy alternatives with Andean Sol: a review of their chia oils

As far as oils for cooking and for salad dressings go, a lot of the vegetable based oils like vegetable, sunflower, peanut, olive and coconut, we have plenty of choice. There is no limit to the number of oils we can use as vegans. I don’t like to use too much oil as I feel it’s not something we necessarily need in our systems, but what if there was a healthier alternative for those of us who are more conscious about what we consume? A vegan journey to Grantham: review of The Recruiting Sergeant

I recently found myself with the OH and in-laws down south on a road trip. We were visiting a garage in Derbyshire and we stayed the night in nearby Grantham. The in-laws had travelled down this way before and had eaten at The Recruiting Sergeant and mentioned that the staff were very nice and when they phoned ahead to enquire, were very happy to accommodate a vegan. Homemade three-layer vegan berry cheesecake: the recipe

A lot of non-vegans are usually worried about missing out on foods they enjoy, “but what do you do about protein?”, “how do you eat enough to feel full?” and “I’ll miss the taste of (insert dish here)”. What non-vegans don’t realise is that not everyone was born vegan and there are a lot of dishes that we missed as well when we decided to make the switch.

This is something I can confidently say whenever I’m told non-vegans will miss out on this dish or that: being vegan and missing a non-vegan dish means that whatever you think you’ll be missing out on, another vegan will have also missed it and come up with a vegan version that tastes just the same, if not better.
