In photos: Vegan Connections Festival 2017

Finding businesses to support when you’re vegan is made so much easier with all the festivals and markets regularly cropping up in Edinburgh and Glasgow. The Vegan Connections Festival, hosted by Vegan Connections, was held at The Briggait at the heart of Glasgow in August and brought together a variety of companies, ranging from caterers, drinks to clothing, household goods and animal welfare organisations, together so new vegans can make the switch more seamlessly.

Having been vegan for 7 months when I was at the festival, I was amazed to see the range of products available. I was mainly focused on the variety of food products sold, but I also had the opportunity to chat with a few businesses about their products and to get to know their products a bit better. Below, I’ve tried to show, through photos, the amazing products we can enjoy as vegans.

Cruelty-free Christmas present shopping!

Christmas is fast approaching and if you’re still struggling to find the perfect Christmas gift, I’ve got a few suggestions. Finding that perfect gift for someone can be quite difficult, especially if you’ve got some vegan friends, some who aren’t and some who are vegetarian. Why not go cruelty free so that you’ve got gifts that would suit everyone and give the gift of a pain-free Christmas for animals too? Continue reading “Cruelty-free Christmas present shopping!”

Makers and Friends workshop: saying it in wire

I’ve been told a lot by friends and family how impressed they are that I make my own garments (see here) or made my own jewellery (here). I’ve mentioned to various interested individuals that it’s a skill that’s easily picked up once you know the basics, but I still get quite a few disbelieving looks. Luckily, I was recently contacted by Makers & Friends about attending a wire workshop that shows you just how simple some jewellery and craft projects can be. Shopping edit: choosing sustainable and ethical fashion brands

Since I starting making a more conscious decision to go cruelty free, and vegan where possible (see here), I started giving more thought to what this choice actually meant. It’s one thing to choose products that don’t involve cruelty to animals, but have you ever wondered how your purchase consumption of products impacts on the world? Looking back on our wedding: tips for planning your big day

Time really does fly, whether you’re having fun or not! It seemed like just earlier this year that I was planning our wedding and today we’re celebrating our first wedding anniversary!

Your wedding day is one of the most important milestones in your life (including starting university or college, starting your first job, finding your first love, having your first child…the list goes on) and it involves, like with other important milestones, a lot of preparation, stress and high emotions. With all the planning involved, I thought it might be helpful for prospective brides to hear some of what I learned from spending 2.5 years planning our 2015 wedding.

Featuring 31 makers’ crafts, visitors can browse beautiful paper homeware, sterling silver jewellery with other unique materials (like elastic or bone), textiles and more.

Rediscovering fashion over the years: 100 years of engagement rings

My hobby of jewellery making had taken a backseat when I was heavily involved in sewing for and planning our wedding last year, but it doesn’t mean my interest in jewellery stopped there. I still like to keep my nose in the business and often find myself looking intently at jewellery pieces to understand the intricacies of a designer or jewellery maker’s craft.

It isn’t until you look at something in further detail and understand the work put into it that you can fully appreciate the art of a designer’s work. Engagement rings are one of the most important pieces of jewellery (alongside the wedding band) in a woman’s life. Below I discovered a video shared on Stylist that documents the history of how fashion has changed for engagement rings in the past 100 years.
