Not Your typical SugarDaddy’s: gluten-free bakery in Edinburgh

Having a dietary requirement can sometimes make eating out seem difficult. More often than not, restaurants and cafés are happy to accommodate customers with dietary requirements as long as you give them plenty of notice. What about if you have a dietary requirement or two and know that something you can’t eat is a primary ingredient? What if you’re gluten-intolerant or coeliac and/or vegan and don’t know where to go for celebration cakes or cupcakes, just because?

SugarDaddy’s has you covered!

I honestly can’t remember the first time SugarDaddy’s was mentioned or when it came to my attention, but if I remember correctly, I believe it was mentioned when someone in my local vegan Facebook group was looking for a suitable for vegans bakery for a celebration cake.

All cakes, cupcakes and traybakes made fresh at the bakery are guaranteed gluten-free, with those which are suitable for vegans, soy-free, nut-free etc clearly marked on their cards. They do sell out quickly, so try to get there as early as you can for more choice. I’ve been to SugarDaddy’s a few times and at one point, some of my favourite vegan treats were the first to go!

Finding this bakery was something I got really excited about, since it seems in addition to being vegan and lactose intolerant, I may now also be gluten intolerant too! I spoke to a colleague about this before, her daughter is gluten intolerant and if she eats any dairy products this adds to her gluten levels which also causes a reaction. I had been paying attention to my body and what happens when I eat gluten and while it doesn’t react entirely in the same way, it has been reacting when I eat more gluten than I normally would. At least with SugarDaddy’s I can have my cake and still eat it!

I would highly recommend stopping by their bakery and getting your hands on some wonderful yummy treats, you honestly wouldn’t even be able to tell they’re gluten-free and vegan!

SugarDaddy’s Bakery is on 5 Rodney Street, EH7 4EN and they’re open Wednesday to Sunday at 11:00am till 5:30pm (4:00pm on Sundays) and closed Monday and Tuesday.
