What with my recent engagement, I’ve been thinking more and more about what I want for The Big Day. Gone are those teenage dreams where I wanted a huge church wedding with a princess wedding dress, tiara and red velvet wedding cake like Jessica Simpson did when she married Nick Lachey. (Well, I’m still insistent on having the red velvet cake for our wedding, although the other half has other ideas so we’ll be having 2 cakes!)
Reading this article about personalising your wedding stationery on Etsy reminds me that it’s not about impressing other people: it’s about you and the person you’re spending the rest of your life with and how you want to remember your big day. From the little details like stationery (invitations, Save the Date cards, RSVP cards, Thank You cards, menus, name cards, seating plans….you get the gist) to bigger things like venues, you want it to be unique and reflect your style.
Wouldn’t want to give too many details away about what I have in mind for the final day, we’ve narrowed our selection of venues and hopefully will visit them later this year and put down a deposit for our chosen one. I already know I’m planning to make the bridesmaids dresses and my own wedding dress as well as the Chinese qipao for the Chinese wedding tea ceremony. As you’re probably well aware by now from my previous posts where I gave you an idea of wedding gifts and essentials you can find and after raving about it I absolutely love browsing on Etsy! Everything’s unique and you support local individual/small businesses and pay reasonable prices for personalised items made to suit your needs, big day or not!
One thing The Fiancé both agreed on (we’re still trying to come to an agreement on wedding photos) is NO traditional wedding guestbook where guests sometimes struggle to come up with witty or individual messages. Instead, why not have them sign your fingerprint tree! How this works, instead of providing a pen and a guestbook, you provide a pre-made personalised tree and ink pads and guests choose a branch to add their fingerprint to and sign their names on their prints if so desired! This will usually be posted to you without the frame to save on postage costs, but it shouldn’t be a big issue to find a frame yourself and hang this up as a memorable item from your special day.
Here are some of my favourite trees:
